Lee Cattermole: 'Solid start to season vital for Sunderland'

Lee Cattermole admits that it was "vital" Sunderland kicked off their Premier League campaign in a positive manner following last season's slow start.

Sunderland captain Lee Cattermole is hopeful that his side can push on following their solid start to the Premier League campaign.

The Black Cats followed up last weekend's 2-2 draw against West Bromwich Albion with a well-earned point against Manchester United this evening.

The results are in stark contrast to last season when Sunderland struggled to get going in the early months of the campaign.

"We had to be organised, they were looking for a reaction after last week's result," Cattermole told Sky Sports News.

"But we're an organised team and we've worked hard in pre-season. It was vital after last year we got off to a good start and hopefully it continues."

Sunderland are in League Cup action on Wednesday night with a trip to face Birmingham City.
