Sunderland boss Martin O'Neill reveals that Nicklas Bendtner could return next week following a knee injury picked up in Saturday's 1-0 win over Liverpool.

Sunderland boss Martin O'Neill has revealed that Nicklas Bendtner could return next week following a knee injury.

The striker was stretchered off after scoring the winner in Saturday's 1-0 win over Liverpool at the Stadium of Light.

"It is a knee injury," O'Neill told Sky Sports News.

"I can't tell you much more at the moment. He's delighted to have scored the goal but he is very sore at the moment.

"We will get a scan in a couple of days and hope that he will be fit for next week. It is a concern."

The Black Cats travel to Everton in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup next Saturday.
