Sunderland striker Duncan Watmore vows to improve his threat in front of goal

Sunderland striker Duncan Watmore insists that he will work on his finishing after missing a chance against Liverpool at the weekend.

Sunderland striker Duncan Watmore has insisted that he will get back on the training pitch to work on his finishing after squandering a chance against Liverpool at the weekend.

The 22-year-old had an opportunity to put the Black Cats ahead at Anfield in the second half on Saturday, but a heavy touch forced him out wide and the chance went missing.

In the end, Sunderland lost 2-0, cutting their winning run short to just two Premier League games.

Watmore is determined to improve and aims to take tips from teammate Jermain Defoe, who has scored seven goals this season.

"It was a very good chance and we worked hard to get that chance, and I'd have loved to have scored it, but you have to make sure it doesn't play on your mind, and instead concentrate on improving your own game so that next time you do take that chance when it comes along," the Sunderland Echo quotes Watmore as saying.

"When you've got someone like JD in the team, he's not a bad person to learn from because finishing is his game. I definitely need to improve in that respect and that's what we do on the training pitch."

David Moyes's side are currently at the bottom of the Premier League table, three points adrift of safety after 13 games.
