Paolo Di Canio wants added "physical presence"

Sunderland manager Paolo Di Canio says that he wants to beef up his side with a couple more players with a "physical presence" before the transfer window shuts.

Sunderland manager Paolo Di Canio has revealed that he is looking to add a "physical presence" to his side before the end of the transfer window.

The Black Cats boss, who has already signed 11 players to his squad so far, admitted that he is looking to bring in a couple more British players who will give his side more strength before the deadline passes on September 2.

"I know this league better than some managers who have managed for more than 20 years in England," Di Canio told reporters.

"This is why I continually ask for two more players with a physical presence. I had the same situation with Swindon Town, [at] a different level. We brought 12 or 13 players in from abroad and straight away I said I wanted two or three British ones with a physical presence.

"At the end of the season, we won the league. Obviously I can't promise we will win the league here but it is obvious that we will have less problems."

Sunderland were held to a 1-1 draw against Southampton on Saturday.
