Martin O'Neill admits that he is eager to bolster his Sunderland squad in January.

Sunderland manager Martin O'Neill has revealed that he is seeking to add to his squad during next month's transfer window.

The window opens for trade at the same time as Premier League clubs embark on a busy run of matches.

However, O'Neill has expressed his hope that he will be able to combine both.

"We have got a really big month ahead and a lot of games, as has every side in the Premier League. It is tough. But it doesn't mean that you shouldn't be thinking of looking at the January market as everybody does," said O'Neill. "All the clubs in the Premier League will be looking at it.

"If people are very active or inactive, I just don't know, but we will certainly have a look at it."

The Black Cats are currently 17th in the Premier League table.
