Craig Gardner encourages his Sunderland teammates to look for the positives in their defeat to Norwich City.

Sunderland midfielder Craig Gardner has insisted that there is no point in any squad member feeling sorry for themselves.

Sunday's 2-1 defeat at Norwich City has left the Black Cats just one point and one place above the Premier League's relegation zone.

However, Gardner believes that his teammates should take the positives from the way they performed during the second 45 minutes at Carrow Road.

"If we lose a game, we need to pick the positives out of the game and move on. There's no point dwelling or sulking for three or four days. The positive is how we played [in the] second half," he told reporters.

"I know it's frustrating for the fans and it's frustrating for us too. I know they work hard to come and see us play and we want to give them a bit of joy."

Next up for Sunderland is a home encounter with Chelsea on Saturday afternoon.
