Swansea City have confirmed that they have lodged an appeal against Federico Fernandez's red card following last night's Capital One Cup defeat to Liverpool.
Manager Garry Monk expressed his anger after the match at Anfield, claiming that hopefully the referee will "see sense" and rescind the red card.
The 25-year-old faces a three-match ban after he was sent off by Keith Stroud in the second minute of injury time following a challenge involving Philippe Coutinho during Liverpool's late 2-1 victory at Anfield in the fourth round of the competition.
A statement on Swansea's official website said: "The club officially informed the Football Association by today's 1pm deadline. The FA will make a decision on the appeal ahead of Saturday's Barclays Premier League trip to Everton."
In the league, the Welsh outfit are currently sixth in the table.
