AEK Athens expect Gus Poyet to stay despite Swansea City link

AEK Athens say that Gus Poyet will remain the Greek club's manager until "at least" the end of the season, dispelling talk that he could take over at Swansea City.

AEK Athens have insisted that Gus Poyet will remain the club's manager until "at least" the end of the season, despite being linked to the vacancy at Swansea City.

The Premier League side are believed to be keen to appoint a new boss by the end of this week following their decision to part company with Garry Monk last Wednesday.

Poyet was rumoured to be interested in the position, but has been quoted as saying on Monday that there has been no "proposal" from the Swans.

Now, an AEK spokesman has claimed that Poyet will remain in charge of their club, who are currently third in the Greek Super League.

"We have not been approached by Swansea, there is no need for us to be approached and no propositions have been made from Swansea," BBC Sport quotes the spokesman as saying.

"Mr Poyet is happy at the club and will be our manager at least until the end of the season."

The Uruguayan has managed two English clubs before - Brighton & Hove Albion and Sunderland.
