Garry Monk: 'Bafetimbi Gomis can be a Swansea City great'

Swansea City manager Garry Monk believes that Bafetimbi Gomis can become one the club's greatest strikers.

Swansea City manager Garry Monk has backed Bafetimbi Gomis to become one of the club's greatest strikers.

Despite being repeatedly linked with a move away from South Wales in the January transfer window, the Frenchman quickly became a regular in attack following the departure of Wilfried Bony.

A hamstring injury could keep Gomis out for the rest of the season, but Monk believes that the 29-year-old will bounce back to deliver the goods on a regular basis for the team.

"We've had some good strikers, some charismatic ones," the Swansea boss told the South Wales Evening Post. "Michu, Bony, back to Lee Trundle and Jason Scotland, all the goalscorers we've had have been very different, but they've all contributed to the team in their own way.

"I've worked with all those strikers mentioned, I played with some of them and have worked very closely with Bafe.

"He can go on to achieve great things like they did. He has all the ingredients to go on and score goals in this league, to score a lot of goals and that's the focus for me."

Gomis has scored six goals in 31 appearances in all competitions this season.
