Brendan Rodgers takes the blame for defeat

Brendan Rodgers refuses to blame Angel Rangel for Swansea City's defeat to Manchester United this evening.

Swansea City manager Brendan Rodgers has taken the responsibility for his side's 1-0 defeat at home to Manchester United this evening.

The only goal of the game in the 12th minute courtesy of Javier Hernandez, although it was only made possible after Swansea full-back Angel Rangel was caught in possession.

Despite Rangel's lapse in concentration, Rodgers has insisted that it was his fault.

"The blame is on me, I ask the players to play that way," he said. "He could have had his touch and smashed the ball up the pitch, he was just slightly off balance trying to play around the corner.

"We look to pass our way out of trouble. The main thing to learn from it was that Ryan Giggs, who was brilliant even though he is almost as old as me, took a great touch into the box and they scored. That is the reality of playing the top sides, but we are learning all the time.

"Angel has been fantastic so there is no blame on him at all."

Rangel, 28, joined the Swans in 2007.
