Ian Walsh: 'Wilfried Bony sale is good business for Swansea City'

Ian Walsh believes that Swansea City's sale of Wilfried Bony to Manchester City is good business for the club, despite them relinquishing their top striker.

Former Wales international Ian Walsh has expressed his belief that Swansea City are benefitting from the sale of Wilfried Bony to Manchester City, despite losing the forward's goal threat.

The 26-year-old is believed to be closing in on a reported £27m switch to the Etihad Stadium.

Despite Swansea losing one of their main first-team stars, the Premier League outfit will make a large profit as they only spent £12m to bring him to England from Vitesse Arnhem in 2013.

"The profit that [manager] Garry Monk and Swansea City will make on Bony will be fantastic," BBC Sport quotes Walsh as saying.

"It's a shame really that he is going because he's been a fantastic player, he's a great goalscorer, he leads the line and he's got a great attitude.

"When someone offers that sort of money, a club like Swansea they've seen it before and they'll see it again. They bring in players, they've taken a gamble and that gamble has worked out for them financially."

Reports have claimed that Swansea will receive £25m upfront from City and the remainder of the fee will be paid in add-ons.
