Former Wales striker Ian Walsh believes that Swansea City should step aside if midfielder Joe Allen wants to move to Liverpool.

Former Wales international Ian Walsh believes that Swansea City may have to relinquish midfielder Joe Allen to Liverpool.

The 22-year-old has been linked with a switch to Anfield following the departure of Brendan Rodgers from the Liberty Stadium to Merseyside.

Swans manager Michael Laudrup has been adamant that he wants to keep the playmaker at the Welsh outfit but Walsh believes that a substantial offer will be enough for Swansea to loosen their hold on Allen.

"It's quite unfortunate, but the reality of the world these days, if there's a fee that Swansea can't turn down and they can bolster the squad in two or three other areas, then they will take it," Walsh told BBC Sport. "You can't hold a player like Joe Allen at Swansea when the likes of Liverpool come knocking on the door."

When he left the club, Rodgers made an agreement with Swansea that he could only bid for a Swans player if another club alerts interest in the player in question.
