Francesco Guidolin eyes 40-point mark for Swansea City

Swansea manager Francesco Guidolin sets his sights on reaching the 40-point mark for Premier League survival this season.

Swansea City manager Francesco Guidolin has set his sights on reaching the 40-point mark for Premier League survival this season.

The Italian remains unbeaten since arriving at the Liberty Stadium, steering the Swans four points clear of the drop zone ahead of this weekend's clash with Southampton.

However, all three of the goals that Swansea have conceded in his tenure have come from corners, including in last weekend's 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace, and Guidolin acknowledged that they need to improve in that respect.

"I am happy with my team, but I would be more happy if we had won last week. We played well against Palace but we must be clinical. It's also important to be more focused on set pieces and we have been working on that," Guidolin told reporters.

"We know this will be a difficult match because Southampton is a good team and in a good period. But I see my players work hard every day and I am confident. We need 40 points (to stay up), but I don't know when we will get there.

"We have to see match by match and be concentrated for the next game. We must win four or five matches and that will not be easy in the Premier League. Working hard, from the players and staff, will see us arrive at 40 points, but I am only thinking about Southampton now because that is the priority."

Swansea would need to average a point per game over the final 13 matches of the season to reach 40 points.
