Remi Garde discusses Aston Villa future

Aston Villa manager Remi Garde says that he would stay if the club are relegated to the Championship, but only if given the resources to strengthen his side.

Aston Villa manager Remi Garde has said that he is "ready" to stay with the side next season if he is given "resources" to rebuild over the summer.

The Midlands club are on course to be relegated from the top flight this season, sitting eight points from safety with just 13 games of the season left to play.

The Villans failed to make a single signing during the winter transfer window, missing out on targets such as Mathieu Debuchy, Seydou Doumbia and Wahbi Khazri, to further dent their hopes of a miracle run of form in the final months of the season.

"Obviously I targeted a few players who could strengthen us," Garde told French radio station RMC. "It has not been possible for various reasons, from our situation not being very attractive for players to an American owner who has already lost a lot of money over the last five years. There is talk of £300 million so it is not nothing."

Asked if he would remain with Villa if they become a Championship side, Garde replied: "This will be discussed when we prepare for next season, that is at the end of the championship or even a little before.

"I am ready to stay at the club if there are the resources to get back up. Aston Villa is a very big club, very prestigious in England. Unfortunately, when you see it up close, there is a lot of work to do. But it is a project that could interest me if you give me the means, as was originally planned."

Villa are next in Premier League action when they welcome Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool to Villa Park on Sunday.
