Swansea City have confirmed that winger Jefferson Montero has returned to Ecuador for a short-term loan spell with former club Emelec.
The 28-year-old had spent the first half of 2017-18 at Getafe in La Liga, featuring for less than an hour combined in his four sub appearances.
Montero has now been sent to Emelec as part of a 'sub-loan', which effectively keeps him registered to Spanish outfit Getafe while he sees out his Swansea contract back in his homeland.
"Swansea City winger Jefferson Montero has returned to Ecuador after joining his former club Emelec on a sub-loan for the rest of the season, subject to international clearance," a statement on the Swans' official website read.
"He remains on Getafe's books for the rest of the season, but he has now been loaned to Emelec from the La Liga club as the transfer window is open in Ecuador."
Montero joined Swansea from Mexican side Monarcas Morelia in 2014, but he has managed just two goals in 72 appearances.
