Switzerland hit 10 against Ecuador

Switzerland emphatically beat Ecuador to boost their push for a place in the last 16 of the Women's World Cup.

Switzerland have got their Women's World Cup campaign back on track with a 10-1 victory over Ecuador in Vancouver.

Fabienne Humm and Ramona Bachmann both scored three goals apiece to help keep the Europeans in contention for a place in the last 16.

The Swiss took the lead on 25 minutes when Angie Ponce inadvertently turned a cross into her own net, beyond the reach of a helpless Shirley Berruz.

Martina Voss-Tecklenburg's side doubled their advantage on the stroke of half time thanks to an Eseosa Aigbogun strike, and within seconds of the restart Switzerland had netted their third as Humm slotted past Berruz.

Two minutes later, Humm was on the scoresheet again after heading Lia Waiti's cross home.

Humm completed a seven-minute hat-trick to put Switzerland 5-0 up and Voss-Teckenburg's team continued to lay siege to the Ecuador goal.

Bachmann scored Switzerland's sixth from the penalty spot and then fired home her second within a minute.

Ponce restored some pride with a spot kick of her own, Ecuador's first goal in a World Cup, but quickly produced another embarrassing moment, scoring her second own goal of the evening.

Martina Moser then got in on the act before Bachmann scored her third of the match to put Switzerland into double figures and nearer the knockout stages.
