Alain Casanova: 'We can still survive despite defeat to Marseille'

Toulouse boss Alain Casanova backs his side to avoid relegation from Ligue 1 despite being thumped 6-1 at home by Marseille.

Toulouse coach Alain Casanova has backed his side to avoid relegation from Ligue 1 despite being thrashed 6-1 by Marseille.

Marcelo Bielsa's men scored four first-half goals at the Stadium Municipal, but Casanova suggested that survival is still possible despite the poor showing from his men.

"This is a real blow. We had a very tough start to the match," said Casanova, according to the official Ligue 1 website.

"They had a bit of good fortune at the start but we were too weak to do anything about it, weak in every department. In terms of our confidence, this really hurts, especially given our position, but it also smashed our goal difference.

"I've been saying for a while that we're going through a tough patch. We have ten matches left and we need to win at least four or five of them. I strongly believe we can do it, otherwise I wouldn't be here."

Toulouse currently find themselves occupying 18th spot in the league standings.
