Half-Time Report: Mark Hughes gives Morecambe half-time lead

League Two leaders Morecambe lead 1-0 away to struggling Tranmere Rovers at half-time thanks to a header from captain Mark Hughes.

Morecambe are halfway to preserving their perfect record in League Two after taking the lead against the run of play against Tranmere Rovers at Prenton Park.

The hosts began brightly with Michael Ihiekwe meeting a Max Power corner, which had to be scrambled away by the Shrimps defence.

Cole Stockton, who signed a new three-year deal with the Wirral outfit in midweek, almost struck when his shot on the turn drifted wide of the visitors goal.

Tranmere defender Matt Hill then broke down the left flank and produced a dangerous ball that needed to be collected by Morecambe keeper Barry Roche under pressure from a couple of attackers.

However, despite a blustering start from the home side, a lack of clear-cut opportunites kept the League Two leaders on terms, and they punished Rovers six minutes before the break as Mark Hughes headed in from a corner.
