National League roundup: Forest Green Rovers go top

Sports Mole rounds up Saturday afternoon's action in the National League as Forest Green Rovers go top with a 4-0 win against Barrow.

Forest Green Rovers have moved to the top of the National League table after they recorded an emphatic 4-0 victory over nine-man Barrow.

The visitors had Danny Livesey dismissed during the early stages and Steve Williams late on as a double from Aaron O'Connor helped Rovers to their third successive win.

Two early goals from Padraig Amond helped Grimsby Town to a 4-1 triumph over Bromley, while Eastleigh are third after salvaging a 1-1 draw at home to Lincoln City.

Tranmere Rovers and Chester FC make up the top five after they were both held to goalless draws by Braintree Town and Dover Athletic respectively.

Cheltenham Town have recorded their first win since relegation from the Football League as two goals from Morgan Amari-Smith helped the club to a 3-0 win over Southport.

At the other end of the table, Halifax Town remain without a point after suffering a 3-2 defeat at home to Torquay United, and they are joined by Altrincham who lost 2-0 at Woking.

Macclesfield Town have their first victory of the season after recording a 2-1 win over Welling United, and Gateshead prevailed by the same scoreline against Boreham Wood thanks to a double from Ryan Bowman.
