James Beattie has rejoined Sheffield United on a loan deal until mid January.
The 33-year-old striker, who played for the Blades between 2007 and 2009, was a free agent after being released from Rangers over the summer.
"I am delighted to be back," he told the club's official website. "Sheffield United is a club that is close to my heart.
"I was at the game on Saturday (against Carlisle) and the fans were singing my name which was nice."
Beattie scored 34 goals in 65 games during his previous spell at Bramall Lane.
