Valencia ease past Granada

Valencia move back into the top four in La Liga by beating Granada 4-0 at the Mestalla.

Valencia moved back into fourth place in La Liga by beating Granada 4-0 at the Mestalla this evening.

It took the hosts until midway through the first half to fashion a decent opening, but after arriving unmarked inside the box, Daniel Parejo headed Antonio Barragan's cross over the bar.

Los Che began to pile on the pressure and in the 26th minute they were rewarded when Javi Fuego headed in Parejo's corner to give them the lead.

Sofiane Feghouli almost added a second goal moments later, but his curling effort from just outside the box went narrowly wide of the far post.

Valencia were then awarded a penalty after Barragan was brought down inside the box by Diego Mainz and Parejo made no mistake to confidently slide home the resulting spot kick.

Early in the second half Granada won a free kick in a dangerous position, but Fran Rico curled the set piece over the bar.

The visitors desperately tried to search for a way back into the match, but with five minutes left to play their hopes were extinguished, as Feghouli raced onto Alvaro Negredo's pass before drilling a powerful strike beyond Roberto.

Valencia further compounded Granada's misery three minutes later, as Negredo was picked out by Rodrigo De Paul and powered home a header that put the seal on a comfortable win.
