Watford midfielder Will Hughes: 'Injury layoff was difficult'

Watford midfielder Will Hughes says that his recent three-month injury layoff "felt like a season", with the summer signing making his return to action last weekend.

Watford midfielder Will Hughes has admitted that he is relieved to have returned to action after a three-month injury layoff.

Since signing from Derby County during the summer, Hughes has found himself in and out of the Hornets squad, with the young Englishman having been absent since December with a hamstring injury.

However, Hughes made a successful return as Watford recorded a 1-0 win over West Bromwich Albion at the weekend, and the playmaker says that his hard work on the training ground has started to pay off.

The 22-year-old told the club's official website: "It's been a long time, I know it's been three months, but it's felt like a season to me. Especially as I was getting in the team, doing well, and then you get injured – that's football for you, but I've fought my way back, and luckily I got onto the pitch again.

"To be involved was a nice feeling. I have worked hard the past couple of months to get back fit and it has paid off."

Hughes has netted twice in four starts and two substitute outings in the Premier League this season.
