Matt Jarvis relieved by Andy Carroll transfer

West Ham United winger Matt Jarvis expresses his happiness at no longer being weighed down by being the club's all-time most expensive signing.

West Ham United winger Matt Jarvis has revealed his relief at no longer being the club's most expensive ever signing.

Jarvis was signed from Wolverhampton Wanderers for around £10m in 2012 to break the Hammers' transfer record.

However, striker Andy Carroll broke the record when he was signed from Liverpool for £15m this summer, and Jarvis expressed his happiness at no longer having to worry about his transfer fee.

"That is one thing that [Andy] can take off me and hopefully I can just go out and enjoy my football and make sure I'm playing well," Jarvis is quoted as saying in The Mirror.

"I think you do get affected by it, but it just comes with football. I'd go out and just try and play as well as I could every week but it comes as part and parcel of football.

"I know exactly what my role is in the team – I can get crosses, get assists and get goals myself. It's fantastic to know exactly what he wants from me. It would be good to increase my goal tally and chip in with more assists as well for the team."

West Ham travel to Newcastle United today.
