West Ham United allegedly failed with a last-gasp attempt to loan Atalanta BC forward Duvan Zapata on Monday evening.
Hammers boss David Moyes had been hopeful of bringing in two fresh faces during the January window, preferably a centre-back and competition for Michail Antonio.
However, much to the frustration of the club's supporters, West Ham did not make a single signing, but it has been alleged that it was not for a lack of effort during the closing hours before Monday's deadline.
According to Sky Sports News, the Premier League outfit tried to secure a deal for Zapata, who had also been of interest to Newcastle United.
The report claims that West Ham submitted a deal sheet for the player, only to ultimately run out of time when it came to fulfilling other criteria.
Earlier in the day, the East Londoners also missed out on signing Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard.
