West Ham United 'keen to tie down Reece Oxford to new contract'

A report claims that West Ham United have promised Reece Oxford more regular first-team football in the Premier League this season in an attempt to keep him in place.

Reece Oxford has reportedly been told that he will be given the chance to impress in the Premier League this season, as West Ham United look to tie the youngster down to a long-term deal.

The 17-year-old has been linked to numerous top-flight clubs ever since impressing for the Hammers in their victory over Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium 12 months ago.

Both Manchester City and Manchester United are among those to have apparently shown an interest in the £15m-rated midfielder, but The Sun reports that West Ham boss Slaven Bilic will reward Oxford with a first-team spot this term - something the Manchester duo are unlikely to offer.

A club insider is quoted by the publication as saying: "Reece has developed over the summer. He has been away with England and looks what we have always believed him to be, a player of huge potential.

"It's obviously down to the manager, but it will be a shock to many if he isn't a regular first team squad member. He will get his chance at the back this season. We are very excited by the potential in the lad."

Oxford was an unused substitute for United in their 2-1 defeat against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Monday evening.
