George McCartney joins West Ham permanently after impressing in his loan spell last season.

West Ham have completed the signing of loan defender George McCartney from Sunderland.

The former Northern Ireland international was on loan at the Upton Park club last season and was manager Sam Allardyce's first choice left-back for much of their Championship campaign.

A deal has now been agreed between the clubs and the 31-year-old defender will join the Hammers on a two year contract.

This is McCartney's second spell at the club after spending two years at Upton Park, between 2006 and 2008, before rejoining Sunderland.
