Owen Coyle has said that he is aiming to return Wigan Athletic to the Premier League "as quickly as possible".
Wigan chairman Dave Whelan confirmed earlier that a deal has been "agreed in principle" for Coyle to become the club's new manager.
Coyle has stated that he wants to take the Latics back into the top flight.
He told Sky Sports News: "Everybody recognises that Wigan Athletic are a fantastic club, led by a superb chairman and they obviously want to get back to the Premier League.
"It was a blow to lose their Premier League status last year, but what we've got to do is look to take them back as quickly as possible. I've got no illusions about that.
"I'm looking forward to trying to get Wigan back to the Premier League."
Coyle has been out of work since leaving Bolton in 2012.
