Sporting Kansas City midfielder Roger Espinoza will travel to England on Wednesday for a medical ahead of a potential move to Wigan Athletic.
Wigan came close to signing the Honduras international during the summer but Sporting Kansas manager Peter Vermes has revealed that the 26-year-old is now close to sealing a move at the start of the January transfer window.
Vermes said: "He called and told me that he's basically decided that he's going to go to Wigan.
"It was a tough decision for him, but it's something that he wanted to do.
"He wanted a chance to play in the English Premier League, but he also wanted to thank me and the club for everything."
Espinoza has scored three goals in 25 games for Honduras.
