Departing Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Mick McCarthy insists that he is leaving the club with his "head held high".

Mick McCarthy has revealed that he is leaving Wolverhampton Wanderers with his "head held high".

The 53-year-old was relieved of his duties following yesterday's 5-1 defeat at home to Black Country rivals West Bromwich Albion at Molineux.

"I've had nearly six great years here," McCarthy told Sky Sports News. "It has been fabulous. I'm leaving with my head held high that's for sure.

"I really feel it is a privilege to have managed such a great club and I've had the best of times. I want to send my best wishes to everybody and also to the new guy that comes in.

"I'm just sad that I left on a bad note with yesterday's game."

McCarthy has previously managed Millwall, the Republic of Ireland and Sunderland.
