Mick McCarthy 'will not settle' for Newcastle draw at Molineux

Mick McCarthy says he is hoping to secure a much-needed win over Newcastle at Molineux tomorrow.

Wolves manager Mick McCarthy is hoping to end his points drought with a win over Newcastle at Molineux tomorrow.

The Midlands outfit started the season well, taking seven points from the first three games, but then went on to lose the next three. Meanwhile, Alan Pardew's side have gone undefeated for their first six and currently sit in fourth place in the table.

"I'm not going to take a draw at home," McCarthy told the club's official website. "If we end up drawing at home, I'll have to take it, but I'm not saying here and now that's what I'd accept. People would think I was an idiot if I said that!"

McCarthy paid tribute to his opponents for having a "great team spirit" and "earning" their current position in the league.

"I don't know where all this is coming that Newcastle shouldn't be doing well," he added. "It's Newcastle United we're talking about, by the way.

"They've got a decent team out there. They lost some big players and big characters out of their team and maybe it's been a good thing for them, I don't know. But they seem to have galvanised and been a better unit for it."

Last year's equivalent encounter between the two sides ended as a 1-1 draw.
