Wolves transfer news: Club legend to return in shock swap deal involving Craig Dawson?

Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly in discussions with another club over a swap deal that would see a club legend return to Molineux.

Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly attempting to pull off a surprise swap deal on transfer deadline day.

The West Midlands outfit moved outside of the Premier League relegation zone on Saturday evening with a deserved 2-0 victory over Aston Villa.

However, Vitor Pereira is eager for club officials to not get complacent in the market, stressing the need for at least one more centre-back and central midfielder.

As per Sky Sports News, Wolves are attempting to finalise deals for Nasser Djiga and Marshall Munetsi of Red Star Belgrade and Reims respectively.

Nevertheless, according to John Percy of The Telegraph, who was commenting on X, a swap deal could be about to trump those deals.

Coady in talks over Wolves return?

The report claims that Wolves and Leicester City are in discussions to finalise a straight swap involving Craig Dawson and Conor Coady.

Both players have dropped out of the starting lineup at their respective sides, Dawson having not featured for Wolves since the 2-2 draw at Tottenham Hotspur on December 29.

Coady's name will dominate the headlines should a deal go through, however, with the England international having previously captained Wolves during one of the most memorable periods of their career.

A total of 317 appearances were made between 2015 and 2022, Coady an integral part of Nuno Espirito Santo's back three that led Wolves to the Championship title and Europa league quarter-finals.

Having not started a Premier League fixture since January 4, it appears that Leicester are prepared to part ways with the 31-year-old if they can bring in the experience of Dawson.

A deal that would suit all parties?

A reunion with Coady would represent a fairytale return for a club legend at a time when Pereira is operating with a system that suits Coady more so than Ruud van Nistelrooy's back four.

Coady would likely have to accept a role on the substitutes' bench, yet his leadership qualities and reunion with some familiar faces could prove pivotal behind the scenes.

In the case of Leicester and Dawson, their dismal defensive record means that a player of the 34-year-old's experience would be welcomed with open arms.

As it stands, discussions are said to be at an early stage, but there is an argument that everyone stands to benefit if a deal can be reached.
