York City give Jackie McNamara one game to save job

York City manager Jackie McNamara agrees to resign should he not gain "a positive result" at Braintree Town on Saturday.

York City have announced that manager Jackie McNamara will lose his job should the side not produce "a positive result" at Braintree Town on Saturday.

The club were relegated from League Two at the end of last season and have got off to an atrocious start in the National League, picking up just three wins in 14 games to sit just above the relegation places in the table.

McNamara, who joined the Ministermen in November 2015, met with club chairman Jason McGill in the wake of a thumping 6-1 defeat to bottom side Guiseley on Tuesday night and agreed that the next fixture would be make or break.

"Following a meeting with the Chairman this morning, and in light of the disappointing performance and result last night, York City manager Jackie McNamara has considered his position going forward," said a statement on the club's website.

"It has been decided that, if the team fails to gain a positive result at Braintree Town on Saturday, the York City manager will tender his resignation.

"The manager will be looking for a passionate and committed reaction from the players after the capitulation at Nethermoor Park on Tuesday evening."

Braintree are in a similarly perilous position, sitting 22nd in the table after two wins all season.
