Marc Marquez backs Honda for Formula 1 success

Double Moto GP champion Marc Marquez backs Honda to make a success of their venture into Formula 1.

Moto GP champion Marc Marquez believes that Honda will succeed in Formula 1 with McLaren, despite a poor start to the season.

With Fernando Alonso still recovering from a crash in pre-season testing, Jenson Button and stand-in driver Kevin Magnussen foundered as the McLaren car struggled for pace and ultimately left the Australian Grand Prix without a point.

However, Marquez, who has won two Moto GP world titles with Repsol Honda, is adamant that the Japanese marque will not be languishing at the back of the grid for long.

He told Marca: "In the end, I trust them. Honda is Honda, and logically, a new project like that has an adjustment process.

"I think F1 is a project that could even be good for us. The technology that is used in Formula 1, maybe someday we can be using in MotoGP."

Honda's last world title in Formula 1 came when Ayrton Senna won his third drivers' crown in 1991.
