Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff believes Formula 1 might consider scheduling a second grand prix in China.
Following the Australia-Shanghai double-header that kicked off the season, Wolff has chosen to skip the upcoming trek to Japan—the start of a triple-header.
The Austrian has occasionally stepped away from races in recent seasons as the sport's packed schedule has ballooned to 24 events. Yet Wolff sees room for growth in China.
"I was on the grid and I looked at the packed grandstands along the main straight and into the first corner," he told reporters in Shanghai last Sunday.
"The knowledge they have here about Formula 1 is also impressive. I mean, could there be a second race? I think 'why not?'" Wolff continued. "It is one of the biggest economies in the world.
"So, yes, if we can keep the enthusiasm high."
China's only F1 driver, Guanyu Zhou, now holds a reserve role at Ferrari after losing his Sauber drive, though he's being heavily tipped for a 2026 seat with Cadillac. Coincidentally, Cadillac F1 team boss Graeme Lowdon manages the 25-year-old.
"I will certainly wait for any opportunity," Zhou said while present at the Chinese GP in Shanghai. "And I am very happy, of course, that Graeme is the team principal of Cadillac, but that does not mean anything else.
"At the end of the day, the decision will be made by multiple people."
