Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg has recorded the fastest time of 1:53.989 in the first practice session ahead of Sunday's United States Grand Prix in Austin, Texas.
The session began with a slightly wet track, but the weather became drier as the practice went on, causing disruption among the teams with regards to which tyres to use.
Within the first 30 minutes of the practice, Rosberg topped the timesheet with his first registered lap of 1:55.02, while McLaren's Jenson Button went second fastest in the early stages.
There seemed to be issues with Ferrari's brakes as the team informed Kimi Raikkonen over the radio that they might have a "problem", but the Finn managed to clock the eighth-fastest time of the session.
Hamilton, who can win his third world title this weekend if he beats Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel by nine points and Rosberg by two, was fifth quickest when the flag was drawn.
Red Bull had a decent run-out with Daniil Kvyat and Daniel Ricciardo second and third respectively.
