Rory McIlroy has won the lucrative Shanghai Masters tournament after beating Anthony Kim in a sudden death playoff.
The Irishman claimed the £1.25m winner's cheque after his par was good enough to win the first hole of the head-to-head, with Kim having bogeyed after missing a 3-foot putt.
Both players finished the 72 holes on 18-under-par after McIlroy surrendered his three-shot lead, only shooting level par during his final round.
The US Open champion did have a chance to win the title on the 18th, but missed an 8-foot birdie opportunity, sending the contest into a playoff.
But it would not prove to be a costly miss for McIlroy, who tapped home for par from close range to seal victory after leading from start to finish.
