Germany's Fabian Hambuchen happy despite "tough time" for team

German gymnast Fabian Hambuchen admits that he is happy with his own performances despite the team sitting fourth in qualifying for the men's team event.

Germany gymnast Fabian Hambuchen has said that he is happy with his own performance despite the team sitting fourth after the first session of qualifying for the men's team event at the European Games in Baku.

Russia lead the standings ahead of Team GB, while a string of errors has left the German squad off the pace midway through the qualification round.

The 27-year-old told reporters: "For me personally, it went pretty well. Especially on floor, I did a really good routine. I don't know if it will be enough for the final, there are a lot of good floor workers here. The other two apparatus went OK too.

"Our team had a tough time today. We had two mistakes on floor and one on pommel horse. We need to see what happens tomorrow. We are only halfway through now, anything can happen. We have three of our strongest apparatus left."

Hambuchen won silver in the high bar competition at the Olympics in London in 2012, having picked up bronze in the same event four years earlier.
