Luis Enrique surgery "successful"

Barcelona boss Luis Enrique has 'successful surgery' after being diagnosed with acute appendicitis.

Barcelona boss Luis Enrique has had 'successful surgery' after being diagnosed with acute appendicitis earlier this morning.

The Spaniard reportedly complained of abdominal pain at the club's training ground this morning, with the 44-year-old sent to the hospital for tests.

The results revealed that Enrique would require surgery to treat his appendicitis, and the operation was a success and he will be discharged from hospital in the next couple of days.

"FC Barcelona's coach, Luis Enrique Martinez, has had an emergency operation for acute appendicitis. The surgery was successful and he will be discharged in the next day or so," read a statement on Barcelona's official website.

"The new coach started at the club on May 21, and has since been working intensely with his collaborators on the configuration of the Barca squad for next season. Barca 2014-15 are due to be back at training on July 14th."

Enrique replaced Gerardo Martino at the Catalan outfit this summer.
