Midfielder Jordan Henderson takes to social media to offer the support of the Liverpool first-team squad after a supporter was attacked ahead of Tuesday's game with Roma.

Midfielder Jordan Henderson has taken to social media to offer the support of Liverpool's first-team squad after a supporter was attacked ahead of Tuesday's Champions League fixture with Roma.

Shortly before kickoff at Anfield, a 53-year-old man - now named as Sean Cox - was attacked by a large group of Roma fans outside of The Albert pub, which is located close to the home of the Merseyside giants.

Cox is currently in a critical condition in hospital, with two Italian men having being arrested in connection with the incident, and Henderson has acknowledged that the fan is in the thoughts of the team.

On Instagram, the 27-year-old said: "The thoughts and prayers of all the players are with the Liverpool fan who is currently very poorly in hospital, after being badly hurt ahead of our game last night.

"He came to watch a football match and support our team - the only result that matters to us now is that he recovers and can return home to be with his family and loved ones. You'll Never Walk Alone."

Liverpool, Roma and UEFA have all strongly condemned the incident.
