Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge has been charged with misconduct by the Football Association in relation to rules against betting.
The 29-year-old has been given until November 20 to respond to the charge, which alleges that he breached the FA's betting rules in January of this year.
Sturridge is accused of breaking one rule, covering a period when he featured for both Liverpool and loan club West Bromwich Albion, though no specific details of the charge has been published by the governing body.
A Liverpool spokesman said: "Daniel has given his full and unequivocal co-operation throughout this process and has assured the club he will continue to do so.
"Daniel has also stated categorically that he has never gambled on football. As with any issue of this nature, we will allow the process to be concluded in its entirety before making any further comment."
Sturridge spent the second half of last season with West Brom, officially joining on loan from the Reds on January 29.
