Manchester United vs. Tottenham Hotspur chosen as first game of PL season

The Premier League matches to be shown on UK TV in August and September are revealed, with the season kicking off at Old Trafford with Man United vs. Spurs.

The Premier League fixtures chosen for live television coverage in the UK on BT Sport and Sky Sports have been announced, with Manchester United vs. Tottenham Hotspur opening the 2015-16 season at lunchtime on Saturday, August 8.

Half of the 10 matches on the opening weekend will be shown, with champions Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City also in action.

Simon Green, head of BT Sport, said in a statement: "Football fans can look forward to a terrifically exciting start to the season on BT Sport in the Barclays Premier League."

Sky Sports pundit Thierry Henry said: "I can't wait for the Premier League season to begin so we can get back into the studio on Sky Sports.

"Starting at Chelsea everyone will be looking at them to see if they can retain their title, and on that opening weekend we also have Man City and Arsenal from last season's top three and they will want to show they can put up a challenge."

As well as raising the curtain on the new season, United will also feature in a rearranged Friday night match on August 14 because of scheduling problems due to an English Defence League march the following day, when the match was initially supposed to be played.

The game can't be played on the Sunday that weekend either because United might be in Champions League qualifying action the following Tuesday.
