Report: Sunderland lead race for Marco van Ginkel

Sunderland are close to beating Newcastle United to the loan signing of Chelsea midfielder Marco van Ginkel, according to reports.

Sunderland have reportedly joined the race to sign Chelsea midfielder Marco van Ginkel on a season-long loan deal.

The Dutch midfielder has been repeatedly linked with Sunderland's rivals Newcastle United in recent weeks after spending last season with AC Milan.

Chelsea are believed to be keen to see Van Ginkel play in the Premier League, and The Metro claims that the Black Cats are now favourites to secure the services of the 22-year-old.

The report suggests that Sunderland have already tabled an offer for the midfielder and a deal could be finalised in the next week.

Van Ginkel joined Chelsea from Vitesse in 2013 but he has made just four competitive appearances for the club.
