Muhammad Ali dies, aged 74

Boxing legend Muhammad Ali passes away at the age of 74 after being hospitalised with respiratory problems.

Boxing legend Muhammad Ali has passed away at the age of 74, his family have revealed in a statement.

The former world heavyweight champion, born Cassius Marcellus Clay, was admitted to hospital in Phoenix, Arizona earlier this week with respiratory problems but was said to be in a "fair" condition.

Last night it was reported that the boxer, who had been suffering from Parkinson's disease for over 30 years, had been placed on life support before it was confirmed that he had lost his battle.

Ali's funeral will be held in his hometown of Louisville, Kentucky.

The decorated sportsman, nicknamed 'The Greatest', retired in 1981 with a record of 56 wins from 61 professional fights, 37 by knockout.
