Brian O'Driscoll admits that it was a "jolt" to be left out of the British and Irish Lions' final Test against Australia.

Brian O'Driscoll has admitted that it was a "jolt" to be dropped from the British and Irish Lions squad for their final Test against Australia at the weekend.

The 34-year-old was axed by head coach Warren Gatland for the clash, which the Lions won 41-16 to clinch the series in Sydney.

"It came as a jolt," O'Driscoll told BBC Sport. "You back yourself to be part of the coach's plans having been involved in the first couple of Tests.

"Knowing Jamie [Roberts] was coming back from injury and the fact [Gatland] went with a combination that have played together a lot of times, you have to suck that up. Life goes on."

Gatland was criticised for his decision to drop the Ireland international.
