Brian O'Driscoll says that he is "totally gutted" after being left out of the British and Irish Lions squad to face Australia.

British and Irish Lions centre Brian O'Driscoll has admitted that he feels "totally gutted" after being left out of the squad to face Australia in the final Test on Saturday.

The 34-year-old was the favourite to captain the side in the absence of usual skipper Sam Warburton, but head coach Warren Gatland opted against picking the Ireland international for the showdown.

While he wishes the team well, O'Driscoll could not hide his disappointment at not being selected.

"Obviously totally gutted at being left out for deciding Test but all efforts go into preparing the boys to see it through. #seaofred," O'Driscoll said on Twitter.

The axe essentially ends O'Driscoll's Lions career, having made eight Test appearances for the side.
