France coach Marc Lievremont has criticised the French press after his team’s 37-17 defeat to New Zealand on Saturday.
"I really regret the detestable atmosphere that we have at these press conferences," he said.
"I am sorry that we cannot work together in a climate of confidence and have exchanges that are useful for both sides.
"For a long time I hoped this would be the case but manifestly it is not. Often I come out annoyed and upset because I sense this atmosphere."
Lievremont, who has been told that his contract will not be renewed after the tournament, not only faced criticism for his team’s loss, but also faced the accusation that he fielded a weak team to manipulate the Pool A table.
"I have just got to take it all on the chin and make sure that it does not pollute my squad and my relations with my players. That is the most important thing," Lievremont added.
France end their pool stage campaign against Tonga on Saturday, October 1.
