Scotland fly-half Finn Russell banned for two weeks

Scotland fly-half Finn Russell is banned for two weeks for a dangerous tackle on Wales's Dan Biggar.

Scotland fly-half Finn Russell has been given a two-week suspension for a dangerous tackle on Wales's Dan Biggar.

Russell was shown a yellow card for the incident during his side's defeat to Wales in the Six Nations on Sunday before later being cited.

Following an independent Six Nations disciplinary committee hearing at Heathrow, the 22-year-old has been banned from playing until midnight on March 1.

The panel claimed that the tackle was worthy of a red card rather than the yellow that he was given by the referee.

Mitigating factors, including the player's "clear disciplinary record", saw Russell's punishment reduced by one week.

Scotland continue their Six Nations campaign on February 28 when they welcome Italy to Murrayfield.
