Jamie Roberts: 'Leigh Halfpenny, Rhys Webb injuries a huge blow for Wales'

Centre Jamie Roberts says that the injuries to Leigh Halfpenny and Rhys Webb are a "huge blow" to Wales's chances at the Rugby World Cup.

Centre Jamie Roberts has said that the injuries to Rhys Webb and Leigh Halfpenny are a "huge blow" to Wales's Rugby World Cup hopes.

It was confirmed on Monday that fullback Halfpenny will miss the World Cup after an injury in their final warm-up game, while Rhys Webb was also stretchered off during the 23-19 victory

"It's a blow, there's no doubting that," Roberts told Sky Sports News. "They're two quality players, two first-team players. It's a huge blow.

"The qualities of both of them shouldn't be under-estimated. They're two quality lads who bring a lot to the team and the squad environment. The timing of this one is desperately unfortunate.

"It's a big blow - two wonderful players, first-team players, who've been instrumental in our success in the past few years. It's difficult. It'll test our strength in depth, but this is why Warren [Gatland] has bred strength in depth in the past few years. We have to be ready for moments like this."

Wales start their Rugby World Cup campaign against Uruguay on September 20.
