Tomas Berdych edges out David Ferrer in straight sets at the ATP World Tour Finals.

Tomas Berdych has beaten David Ferrer in straight sets in the ATP World Tour Finals to win his first game in Group A.

The Czech overcame Ferrer 6-4 6-4 after edging out his opponent in both sets following topsy-turvy contests.

The pair played out a back-and-forth opening set to reach 4-4, before Berdych sent a backhand up the line to give him breathing space at 5-4, and finishing it off in clinical fashion.

The second continued in a similar fashion before he won it with an ace which clocked 137mph.
