Grigor Dimitrov: 'I didn't give Dustin Brown chances'

Grigor Dimitrov believes that he didn't give Dustin Brown the chance to play his best after beating the German in straight sets at the Australian Open.

Grigor Dimitrov has revealed his delight after strolling into the second round of the Australian Open with a comfortable victory over Dustin Brown.

It took the 10th seed just 69 minutes to wrap up the win against an opponent who was tipped to push him hard on the opening day, and he admitted that it was crucial to execute his plans as early as possible.

"I knew what I had to do," the Bulgarian told reporters. "I didn't feel like I gave him chance to do his game.

"I didn't give him chance to play his shots. I think that discouraged him a little bit. After a couple of breaks I already knew the match can go on my side, but at the same I had to stay focused."

Dimitrov is looking to build on his performance in Melbourne last year, when he reached the quarter-finals before losing to Rafael Nadal.
